For the very first post in the series of an ‘Interview with a Designer’, we have none other than Tim Boelaars. A very talented and up-and-coming Dutch illustrator, who has amazed me with his work and personal style ever since the first time i saw his shots on his Dribbble page.
Read on to get to know him, how he got started and how he thinks about his occupation and the design community.
The last week i’ve been busy with a new project called ‘Interview with a Designer’. It’s pretty self explanatory, everyday I see some very great designs on the web and i get inspired by their creators.
I thought to myself, I’m probably not the only one, and there are probably a lot more like me who want to know more about the people behind these amazing designs.
This week we will be making a nice retro/vintage style badge. We will create the badge with all the shapes and text we need in Illustrator and then finish it off in Photoshop with some nice textures to give it that vintage feeling.
You will learn more about the Pathfinder, Offset Paths, playing with type, and making an awesome badge! The design below is what we’ll be creating:
Yesterday I came in the posession of two Dribbble invites.
I gave one to Thomas Offinga, a great designer who I promised to get into the game as soon as I had an invite. Be sure to follow his work on Dribbble.
So now I have one invite left and I wanted to be sure to draft someone who can add something and benefit from the design community that is Dribbble…
For my first ever blog and tutorial post I will try to share my experiences with creating 3D icons and logo’s in Adobe Illustrator. Even though I am a minimalist when it comes to design(especially branding), I think these techniques can be useful for creating icons whenever you’ll be needing them. The post is basically for everybody wanting to get to know Illustrator’s tools a little better.
Since this is the first time I’ve ever done such a thing, I’d appreciate any feedback for a better tutorial post in the future. Thanks and enjoy!
We will be making a simple enough 3D logo/icon. We will be doing a green earth themed icon for an imaginary event/company named ‘Earth After Eight’.
While the endresult is pretty simple, the techniques you will learn in this tutorial will hopefully help you to make your own cool 3D icons and logo’s.
You will get to know the Pathfinder tool, learn to make a simple original shape and turn it into a shiny 3D object.
